Indications of an undeclared war erupting between Israel and Iran following the attack on a fuel tanker

Jerusalem – Two crew members died in a suicide drone attack on an Israeli fuel tanker near Oman. Israel has blamed Iran for this. ‘Iran is not just Israel’s problem. Iran, the sponsor of terrorism, destruction and instability, is a threat to the whole world,’ warned Lapid, Israel’s foreign minister. Following the incident, Israel’s defence minister and defence chief held an emergency meeting. Hence, the attack indicates that Israel is preparing to respond to Iran.

The British military says a merchant ship Mercer Street, bound for UAE, was attacked two days ago. Earlier, it was predicted that the attack, which took place near the Masirah Island in Oman, was carried out by pirates. However, Iran is believed to be behind the operation after it was revealed that an Israeli businessman’s company operated the ship. On Friday, the US Navy announced that a drone attack had been carried out on the boat, thus raising suspicions that Iran was behind it.

Neither the United States nor the United Kingdom has directly blamed Iran for the attack. But Lapid, Israel‘s foreign minister, has appealed to the ambassadors of the United States, the United Kingdom and the United Nations to take a tough stand on Iran’s counter-terrorism efforts. He also called on the international community to take a stand against Iran’s terrorism to secure maritime freedom.

Israeli media is reporting that an emergency security meeting has been held between Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz and Defence Chief Aviv Kochavi. Looking at Foreign Minister Lapid’s warning and the meeting of defence ministers, there are clear indications that Israel is preparing to respond to Iran. For the past two years, undeclared wars have been raging between Israel and Iran over attacks on each other’s merchant and fuel vessels in the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Oman, the Red Sea, and the waters of Syria. But there are clear indications that the undeclared war will erupt after two workers were killed in Thursday’s incident. If that happens, tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea could escalate.
