Indian Foreign Minister abstains from the UNSC meeting presided over by

United Nations: Indian Foreign Minister abstained from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting presided over by China. Indian Foreign Minister’s absence from this meeting is believed to be another step taken by India against China. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla represented India instead of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

China will be presiding over the UNSC meetings this month. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also attended the meeting. Participation by the Indian Foreign Minister was expected in this meeting convened by China. But Foreign Minister Jaishankar did not participate in the discussion.

During the G7 meeting held in London, Foreign Minister Jaishankar had clarified that the relations between India and China are strained. Foreign Minister Jaishankar is repeatedly warning China, ‘China will have to face serious consequences of the border dispute on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. China should not dream of Indian cooperation with thousands of soldiers deployed on the LAC in Ladakh.’ But China has chosen to ignore the Indian warning and is trying to cover up the dispute.

Against this background, India has started a spate of decisions to make China aware of the situation. A few days ago, India issued permission for 5G trials. But the Chinese companies were kept out of this. China made a lot of noise over the Indian decision. Even in the past, India has taken decisions to deliver jolts to China.

The absence of Foreign Minister Jaishankar in the UNSC meeting, convened by China, is another way of registering a protest by India. India is delivering a message to the world that China, on one hand, is speaking a language of cooperation with India, and on the other hand, making military movements against India. China has started feeling the pressure of this, and therefore, China is avoiding the use of aggressive language on the official level against India.

Despite all this, India is firm that it will not be satisfied unless the military is withdrawn from the LAC in Ladakh.
