India to deploy Israeli Heron Drones at the LAC

New Delhi: – China has started new inciting activities near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to pressurise India. A few days ago, the Army Chief ordered the Indian Army to monitor the Chinese military’s movements closely. Against this background, advanced Israeli Heron Drones will soon be deployed on the LAC. Moreover, mini drones will also be deployed on the LAC to strengthen the patrolling on the border. These Indian decisions are meant for sending appropriate messages to China.

The Chinese inciting activities on the LAC in Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan have not stopped. The second wave of Coronavirus pandemic has hit India, and it is being accused that China is carrying out these activities to take advantage of the situation. But the Indian Army, cautious regarding Chinese movements, has maintained its patrolling on the LAC. Last week, Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Mukund Naravane, cautioned the Indian Army regarding China during his visit to the military base in Arunachal Pradesh.

India has already deployed surveillance aircraft for patrolling the LAC. At the same time, to strengthen the patrolling, India is getting super-advanced Heron Drones from Israel. The Army has leased four Heron Drones from Israel under the special economic powers awarded to the Army by the Union Government. The government sources informed that these drones are more advanced than the Heron Drones that are currently operational with the Indian Army. The anti-jamming capabilities of these new drones are far superior to the older variety. Therefore, it is being claimed that these drones will be beneficial for the Indian Army to carry out surveillance in the Ladakh and LAC regions. Other than these Heron drones leased from Israel, India has also purchased mini-drones from the United States. These drones will be handed over to army battalions. Sources informed that these mini drones, which can be launched by hand, will undoubtedly add to the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Army. India has already purchased the independent version, Heron-TP Drones, from Israel. The Heron-TP Drones can carry out surveillance for 24 hours and can carry 1-tonne explosives. With this transaction, the importance of the India-Israel defence cooperation is underlined once again. Israel has decided to supply these drones without paying any heed to the pressure of a mighty country like China, thus showing that it attaches the highest priority to cooperation with India.

China has adopted a stand against Israel in the Israeli conflict with Hamas and Islamic Jihad. In the UN Security Council, China had supported the anti-Israel resolution. It is clear that this is a Chinese effort to turn the Gulf countries on its side. Therefore, the India-Israel defence cooperation becomes more significant.
