Washington: US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said that India is a big and an essential partner country for the United States and he is in constant touch with the Indian Foreign Minister. The United States stands firm behind India against the background of the tension created between India and China, and the India-US relations are going from strength to strength. The United States is forming a front against China on the global level, and the US Secretary of State is indicating that the Indian stand and participation in the front will be crucial for the front.
The US Secretary of State informed in a press conference that India is a significant partner and very important for the United States. According to him, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar shares a wonderful equation with him. They are consistently in touch and discuss various issues. They have also discussed the conflict on the Chinese border. China is building telecommunication and advanced infrastructure in other sectors, in the border areas. The threats emerging from these Chinese activities also have featured in their discussions.
At this time, Secretary of State Pompeo justified the Indian ban on 49 Chinese apps. Pompeo said that this was an important decision taken by the Indian government. The entire world realises the threats and challenges posed by China, and he is confident that the countries with democracy and free systems will unite in opposing China.
Since the last few months, the United States had started targeting China over the issue of Coronavirus pandemic. The conflict dug up by China against India seems to have vindicated the US stand against China. The Indian military delivered a telling blow to the Chinese army in the conflict started by China in the Galwan Valley. China was severely cornered on the international level because of the jolt delivered by India. Making this the central issue, the United States has started increasing the closeness, further, with India.
Only last week, Mark Meadows, White House Chief of Staff, had asserted that the United States is standing firm behind India, with all its might, in the border dispute with China and will continue to do so. After that, in the discussions with the Indian Foreign Minister, Pompeo had blamed the Chinese communist government of expansionism. The Indian and US Defence Ministers also had discussed regarding increasing the defence cooperation, keeping tension with China, as the central issue.
