In 2001, Russia and China had signed the Friendship Treaty. Besides, the sources claim that the presidents of these two countries have spoken to each other under the pretext of that treaty completing 20 years. At the time, Russian President Putin congratulated Jinping over the Communist Party for completing 100 years. Moreover, President Putin also praised that the Russia-China cooperation will help maintain stability on an international level. Both nations also released a joint statement.

Russia needs a prosperous and stable China; China requires a strong and successful Russia. Both nations are partners, so they are prioritising mutually. In the future, the focus would be to increase cooperation and coordination in politics, security, defence, trade, culture and international practice, the joint statement mentioned. In addition, the statement mentions that Russia and China share the same stance over the global arms race.

Russia and China have discussed the pressure exerted upon them by the West and also the sanctions. Both nations strictly oppose discriminatory sanctions. A few countries are interfering in the internal matters of other countries under the pretext of democracy and human rights, the Sino-Russia joint statement criticised. However, even though the Chinese press has taken special cognisance of this meeting between the Russian and Chinese presidents, the Russian media has published information about it in a limited capacity.

The Chinese media and analysts have claimed that this meeting of Jinping with the Russian President is a slap to the western countries. A few months ago, the western press had published claims that Russia and China have conflicting differences. Besides, it was advised that the United States used the differences between the two nations to stop China. The media also drew attention to the meeting of the Russian President with his US counterpart. Thus, this meeting on Monday and the extension of the friendship between the two nations must have delivered a heavy blow to the western countries, taunting the Chinese mouthpiece Global Times.

Meanwhile, Russia has proposed a military alliance with China to counter the movements of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region to stop Russia, Newsweek reported.
