Flood situation in Assam and Bihar worsens

Guwahati / Patna / Pithoragarh: Over the last few days, the situation in Assam and Bihar has severed due to heavy rains. On Sunday, six people died due to floods in Assam, and the total number of dead has reached over 85. Besides, 70 lakh citizens in Assam have been displaced due to the floods. On Sunday, ten people died in Bihar due to lightning strike amid the downpour. Besides, the Uttarakhand cloudburst has killed three people, and six citizens have gone missing.

Aasam-Bihar The water levels of rivers in Assam have risen due to the heavy downpour and hence, the situation there has worsening by the day. Floods have struck 28 of 33 districts in Assam. NDRF and SDRF are making extensive efforts to rescue the citizens. However, this rescue operation is facing difficulties as the roads and bridges in Assam are damaged due to floods. 3379 villages across 28 districts are submerged in water, and 44,000 citizens have been moved to Relief Camp.

The Assam government has set up more than 200 relief camps across 14 districts. Moreover, 1.28 hectares of the farm has submerged underwater due to floods. Besides, the Brahmaputra river has surpassed the risk levels, and the Barak tributary has seen an increase in the water level as well. Hence, the authorities have expressed concern. Furthermore, the Kaziranga National Park has also been struck with the floods, and about 15% of the area, which measures about 430 square kms is underwater. So far, 108 animals have died due to floods.

Moreover,Bihar is also severely affected by floods alongside Assam. On Sunday, ten people died in Bihar due to a thunder strike.  Furthermore, three people in Purnia, two in Begusarai and one each died in Patna, Saharsa, East Champaran and Darbhanga districts due to the thunder strike. In the last three weeks, 160 people have been killed in Bihar due to lightning strikes. On Sunday, three citizens died due to cloudburst in Madkot, Uttarakhand and six people have gone missing. Besides, PM Narendra Modi discussed and reviewed the flood situation in Assam and Bihar with the chief ministers of the respective states
