European countries upset with Biden over withdrawal from Afghanistan

Washington/London – The rescue operations and military withdrawal from Afghanistan cannot be completed until August 31. The United Kingdom, France and Germany called on the United States to extend the deadline in talks with the Taliban. But US President Biden’s announcement not to extend the deadline has sparked outrage in the European countries. The Biden administration’s insistence on surrendering to the Taliban by sticking to the August 31 deadline has drawn criticism in the western media.

By August 31, western nations must complete their withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Taliban warned two days ago that it would not tolerate any foreign troops deployed in Afghanistan after that. But British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had said it is not possible to rescue its citizens and Afghans as well as carry out troop withdrawal until August 31. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg also said the August 31 deadline would not be enough, citing the chaos at Kabul airport.

Johnson had demanded that President Biden’s administration, who signed the Doha Accord with the Taliban, take a few more days for rescue and military operations. For this, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom called an emergency meeting of the G7 countries on Tuesday. At the same meeting, other member states also demanded an extension from the United States. But President Biden insisted on the August 31 deadline. Biden claimed that the United States had repatriated more than 70,000 people so far and that the withdrawal would be completed by August 31.

European countries have not openly resented the stand adopted by the United States, which has led the counter-terrorism operation in Afghanistan for the past 20 years. However, the western media has claimed that there is open resentment, among US allies, over Biden’s stance on the Afghan withdrawal. A leading daily from the United Kingdom has criticised President Biden for rubbing salt on the wounds of European countries.

Meanwhile, another incident has come to light in which a foreign national was beaten by Taliban militants, who have taken control of security outside Kabul airport. A video of an Australian citizen being brutally beaten by Taliban terrorists has also been released. A few days ago, a British citizen was beaten by the Taliban. Therefore, serious concerns are being expressed about the safety of foreign nationals in Afghanistan.
