Late night on Sunday President Erdogan had ordered the Airforce to carry out aerial surveillance of the city of Istanbul and ‘F-16′ fighter jets have been dispatched to guard Turkey’s airspace. On Monday morning the officials clarified that Turkey’s danger is not yet over. Earlier on Sunday evening locals had spotted unidentified helicopters hovering over the aerospace of the city of Istanbul. Few civilians had claimed to have seen 5 Helicopters heading from Europe towards Istanbul.

Although the Erdogan government was successful in suppressing the attempted military coup, Turkey’s 43 military helicopters continue to be missing. One of these helicopters had landed in Greece and 8 rebels in it have been taken into custody. Turkey has demanded that Greece should hand over these rebels. But there has been no clue about the other missing 42 helicopters.

Since 5 helicopters were sighted in Istanbul’s aerospace, it is believed that the threat of a coup in Turkey continues. The News Agencies in Turkey has reported that insurgents may once again try to rebel against the Erdogan government. Against this background as a precaution, the Erdogan government has decided to intensify the surveillance over the city of Istanbul. For this purpose, 1800 soldiers have been promptly deployed in the city of Istanbul. Additionally to counterattack airstrikes, anti aircraft guns have been deployed on the streets of Istanbul.

There are reports that after foiling the rebel coup, Turkish Security Forces have arrested more than 6000 persons which includes 3000 soldiers. Among these there are 103 generals and officers of the rank of an admiral. The insurgents had plotted a conspiracy to dislodge Erdogan from power. At the same time, through air attacks, the insurgents had planned to shoot down President Erdogan’s aeroplane.

“For this the insurgents had obtained possession of ‘F-16′ fighter jets. The attack was planned after Erdogan would leave via Istanbul for the capital city of Ankara and 2 ‘F-16′ fighter jets were kept ready. After starting the radars, rockets were positioned to attack the moment Erdogan’s plane would arrive in the range. There were plans to shoot down the 2 F-16′ fighter jets accompanying Erdogan’s plane and the whole picture would have changed in few seconds. But it’s surprising why the insurgents were unable to carry out this attack”, said an Ex Army Officer related to these events.

Meanwhile, the demand to hang the arrested rebel military generals, judges and legal experts is picking up speed.

There is however no legal provision in Turkey to hang culprits. President Erdogan has declared that to respect the demand of the people, the law to hang the culprits will be reenacted. From 2004, to obtain membership of the European Union,Turkey had repealed the law to hang. But in the light of this rebellion, it appears that the Erdogan government is ready to reenact that law.
