Damascus/Washington: On Monday, a fleet of drones attacked a military base in Al-Tanf, Syria. The United States claims to have foiled some of these attacks. An Israeli news channel claimed that Iran was behind these attacks near the Iraq-Syria border. A few hours ago, Israel launched airstrikes on an Iranian military base in Tartus, Syria. The Israeli media claimed that the Iran-affiliated group had attacked the US base to avenge the attacks.
The United States has significantly reduced its military deployment in Syria. It is claimed that only 2,000 US troops are currently deployed in Syria. Soldiers from allied countries, the United States, and the rebels fighting in the anti-Assad coalition are deployed at the Al-Tanf military base in Syria near the Iraq-Syria border.
The United States had announced that it had set up a base for the operation against the terrorist organization ‘IS’, which took various regions to take control of Syria seven years ago. But the base at Al-Tanf is proving very important for the United States. The United States was also accused of taking action against Iran and Iran-affiliated groups supporting the Assad regime, given the proximity of this base to the Iraq-Syria border. In such a situation, drones attacked Al-Tanf military base on Monday morning. One of these drones crashed in the compound of the Al-Tanf military base. It is claimed that neither the United States nor its allies suffered any casualties or financial losses in these attacks. It has been revealed that Iran-affiliated groups had launched a drone attack on the base in Al-Tanf, even earlier. But as per the Middle East media, current drone strikes are a big warning for the United States. Israeli media said Israel’s operation in Syria a few hours ago was responsible for the drone attacks on this military base. Iran may have carried out these drone attacks in retaliation for the Israeli attack.
The opposition leader to the Assad regime in Syria made this claim while talking to an Israeli news channel. On Sunday evening, the Syrian Army alleged that Israeli warplanes entered the Lebanese territory and carried out airstrikes in Tartus, Syria. Israel reported that three Syrian soldiers were killed in this attack, targeting the Iranian military base here. It was also claimed that Israel even destroyed the air defence system. The attack, carried out by Israel close to a Russian naval base, is being viewed more seriously.
Meanwhile, attack drones from Iran and Iran-affiliated terrorist organizations are currently causing a headache for the United States and its Middle East allies. Houthi rebels in Yemen are accused of using Iranian-supplied drones to launch direct attacks on fuel projects in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It was revealed that drone attacks were also carried out on anti-Iranian groups in Iraq. Israel also alleged that the armed drones that entered Israel from Syria last year were Iranian-made.
