Chinese media bluff quoting Swiss scientist over corona outbreak; Swiss embassy says scientist is ‘fake’

Beijing/Bern: – The Chinese media have been exposed, claiming that the stand to re-investigate the origin of the Coronavirus pandemic was accepted under US pressure. The Chinese state media made the allegations against the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States based on Swiss scientist Wilson Edwards’ statements. However, the Swiss embassy has clarified that the scientist by the name does not exist and has warned the Chinese media to withdraw the ‘fake news’. The incident has once again thwarted false propaganda efforts by China about the Coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, a post about Coronavirus was posted on Facebook, claiming that a profile called ‘Wilson Edwards’, to be a ‘biologist’. The post discussed the WHO’s decision to re-investigate the origin of the corona. It claimed that the proposal to investigate China’s Wuhan Lab was taken under US pressure. Edwards’ post accused that the Coronavirus inquiry was a part of political manoeuvres.

The post was immediately picked up by the Chinese media, accusing the US of Coronavirus. Based on Edwards’ posts, the People’s Daily, the Global Times, the Shanghai Daily, and the CGTN all started spewing fire on the United States and the WHO. At the same time, he said that the Chinese regime has always been transparent on the issue of Coronavirus, adding that the allegations against China in this regard were part of an international conspiracy. But within a few days, it became clear that the new propaganda launched by China was fake news. The Swiss embassy in China released a detailed statement on the social networking site Twitter on August 10. The statement clarified that no person or scientist named ‘Wilson Edwards’ existed in Switzerland. Therefore, the Chinese media and netizens should withdraw all posts in this regard, the embassy said. At the same time, it was also noted that the media should explain in this regard. The statement from the Swiss embassy came as a major shock to the Chinese media.

Following this statement, the Chinese media withdrew their posts on the Internet. However, this incident seems to have exposed, once again, the false propaganda launched by China on the issue of Coronavirus. Since its inception, China has consistently pursued a non-transparent and covert policy. China, who initially denied human transmission, insisted that the Coronavirus did not originate from China and it came from Europe and other Asian countries. China has since withheld information about the extent of the outbreak in China and vaccine research.

China has demanded an investigation into US laboratories after the Wuhan Lab issue was raised internationally. However, while making all these false allegations and claims, China has not presented any evidence in this regard. Therefore, it has been exposed that the information provided by China about Coronavirus has been a part of a ‘fake news campaign’. The case of the Swiss scientist proves this.
