China's CCP regime decides to relax Zero Covid Policy following aggressiv

Beijing: The Communist Party has finally been forced to take notice of the outcry of the Chinese people against the ‘Zero Covid Policy’ implemented to control Corona. It has emerged that the restrictions on the Chinese people, who have taken to the streets since last week, were gradually relaxed. This is the first time since the Communist Party took over that a decision had to reverse due to popular discontent. Analysts claim that this indicates the leadership of Xi Jinping, who gained absolute power over the Communist Party and China just last month, has weakened.

Chinese people took to the streets last week, outraged by the accidents caused due to the strict implementation of the ‘Zero Covid Policy’. For more than five consecutive days, protests were ongoing in more than ten major cities in China. It included leading cities such as Shanghai and Guangzhou and the capital Beijing. Even the barrage of action raised through online censorship and security forces could not stop the Chinese people. This caused great unrest in the ruling regime of China. Former and present Chinese officials had also registered that the new agitation and demonstrations were unprecedented events.

China’s regime appears to have decided to relax the ‘Zero Covid Policy’ restrictions against this background on Wednesday. Considering this, the administration has issued instructions in Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and Chongqing cities, along with the capital Beijing. Accordingly, those with mild symptoms of Corona were allowed to stay at home instead of going to the quarantine centre. Schools and other businesses have reopened in some cities, and events and ceremonies have been allowed. Indications have also been given that restrictions across the country will be relaxed from the beginning of the New Year, and transactions will begin.

For the past two months, the number of Corona patients in China’s capital Beijing and other leading cities began increasing again. Therefore, the Chinese government made the restrictions imposed under the ‘Zero Covid Policy’ more stringent. The lockdown period was also extended in many areas. The movement of citizens was completely stopped by erecting barricades in the civilian settlements. The citizens’ anger erupted when it came to light that the Corona restrictions were responsible for the loss of life in the fire incident in Xinjiang.

The Chinese systems started to crush the agitation in the first two days by taking a very aggressive stance after this outbreak. However, despite that, the incident of citizens taking to the streets was a big shock to the security forces and ruling regime. The ruling regime appeared to be facing an open challenge with the incidents of citizens breaking barricades and pelting stones in defiance of the security forces. At the same time, slogans against the Communist Party and Xi Jinping in the demonstrations clearly indicated that the public outcry had reached its peak. Analysts had claimed that President Xi Jinping may have retreated after realising that this public outcry could be an alarm bell when everything was not in order at the economic level.
