British Parliament vetoes Pakistan on Gilgit and Baltistan issue

New Delhi – Britain has severely opposed Pakistan’s decision of trying to declare “Gilgit – Baltistan” as its fifth province. Strongly condemning Pakistan for forcefully occupying this land, the British parliament has passed a motion against Pakistan to reject its right to occupy “Gilgit – Baltistan”. Further to this Britain has also stated “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC) construction to be illegal.

Sartaj Aziz, the chief advisor of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, chaired a committee which suggested constitutional changes in this matter. Accordingly Pakistan has commenced working towards the same, as cited by Pakistan’s minister of Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada.

Pakistan and China’s ambitious project of Economic Corridor” (CPEC) runs through these regions. By acknowledging these regions as its fifth province, Pakistan is trying to make constitutional changes in the “Gilgit – Baltistan” area, in order to cover them under Pakistan, hoping this will benefit them in the CPEC project.

India had earlier expressed a stern disregard on this issue, warning Pakistan that tactics like these will not be tolerated. India had clearly warned Pakistan that Gilgit-Baltistan along with the entire Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is an integral and inseparable part of India and that it should surrender not only “Gilgit – Baltistan” but also the entire Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well.

Subsequently, the British Parliament passed a special resolution to warn Pakistan. The resolution says,“Gilgit–Baltistan” is a part of India which in the year 1947, Pakistan had unlawfully seized. By declaring this region as its fifth province,Pakistan is trying to usurp a region which never belonged to it. As mentioned in the resolution made by Britain; the said region legally comes under Jammu and Kashmir; moreover Pakistan has never even considered basic rights of people living in this region.

This Resolution was tabled in the parliament by the British conservative party’s MP, Bob Blackman.
