AI to be used to increase efficiency of railway  

New Delhi: Indian Railway has decided to make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data analysis for increasing efficiency. Railway board chairman VK Yadav said that an agreement for the purpose has been signed with the Indian School of Business, based in Hyderabad.

Since the last few months railway is working on increasing its efficiency along with infrastructure development, it was decided to use drones for the security of railway properties like railway stations, railway yards, workshops etc. Now the railway has decided to focus on using AI. The railway will be setting up a centre for this, in the next three days.   

Railway has decided to appoint a Chief Technical Officer in each zone for this purpose. This officer will be responsible for analysis and keeping track of the emerging technologies in the AI sector and implementing them in railway programming. Railway has the statistics regarding the passengers, train operations, freight and property. All this data will be analysed using AI. Railway board chairman VK Yadav informed that this would be used in Passenger Reservation System, information of new trains and property management.   

Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, has been entrusted the responsibility of devising a plan for increasing the efficiency of the railway. As per information, 88 officials have been trained for the use of AI in the last two months. Since the last few months, the railway is making efforts to provide better services to the passengers. Along with the modernisation of railway stations, measures are being taken even for security. Steps have been taken for increasing the speed of railway and providing better facilities onboard the train, have been taken. Now with the use of AI, the railway is taking one more step forward.
