40 tonnes of gold sold on Dhanteras 

Mumbai: – Indians purchased 40 tonnes of gold, on the occasion of Dhanteras, ignoring the Coronavirus crisis and the slowing of the Indian economy. It has been noted that there has been a 30% increase over the sales on Dhanteras last year. There were gold sales worth a whopping Rs 200 billion on one single day.

Last year, 30 tonnes of gold were sold on Dhanteras. In value terms, the gold sales on Dhanteras in 2019 were Rs 120 billion. The statistic makes it clear that gold sales have increased by 30% over the last year, despite the gold rate crossing Rs 50,000. The Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) informed that 40 tonnes of gold were sold on Dhanteras this year.   

The gold sales had declined as the shops were closed during the lockdown period. The gold rates also increased in the meantime. But the gold purchases have increased during the festive season. Huge quantities of gold were sold on the day of Dhanteras. In some parts of the country, Dhanteras was celebrated for two days. IBJA National Secretary said that the gold sales increased further as Dhanteras was celebrated even on Thursday in some places.
