Roy Minter, the Police Chief of Savannah, reacted, ‘We are disturbed because of the increasing incidents of indiscriminate firing and violence around the country. These incidents are numbing the senses.’ He also claimed that there is a possibility of an increase in such occurrences in the coming times. Chuck Wexler, the Executive Director of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), also endorsed the view. Former officials and analysts have claimed that the Coronavirus pandemic and campaigns like Defend Police are the reason behind this increase. Many police officers have resigned due to the Defend Police campaign and the accusations levelled against the police. The Coronavirus pandemic also has claimed the lives of many police officers. Therefore, there is a shortage of workforce in the police unit, and it is believed that the criminals are taking advantage of this.
