247 Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh over two years; Chhattisgarh Police

Raipur: Over the past two years, 247 Maoists have been killed in the encounter with the Security Forces of Chhattisgarh. It has come to the fore that although 208 bodies had been taken into custody by the police, the remaining 39 bodies had been lifted by the Maoists during the encounter.

The Security Forces have undertaken a big campaign of uprooting the Maoists, who are a big threat to the internal security of our country. Owing to the campaign undertaken, the Maoists have retreated from the region in large numbers. It is relevant from the figures that over the past two years, 247 Maoists have been killed across Chhattisgarh, a highly Maoist dominated region. Special Director General of police, D.M Awasthi (Anti-Naxal Operations) had declared that the toll of Maoists killed in the encounter in Chhattisgarh had been 208. The figures had been announced on the basis of the bodies recovered from the location of the encounter. However, the Maoists declared that the total number of 247 Maoists had been killed during the encounter. The statistics have been published by the Maoists in their publications.

These Maoist cadres had been killed in the encounter, during August 2016 to July 2018. The Maoists also observed Martyr’s day from the month of July. In their publications released on the Martyr’s day, they have mentioned that in the past two years 248 associates had been killed. Similarly, in the past two years, 39 more Maoists had been killed in the encounter, over last two years compared to the police statistics.

After the encounter with the police, the Maoists generally retrieve the bodies of their accomplices from the place of encounter.  In Chhattisgarh, there have been 400 encounters between the security forces and the Maoists, in the last two years, where the top brass members of the Maoists were also killed, the statistics of which are available with the Maoists

In the meanwhile, 678 arms were recovered from the location of the encounter. These include LMG (lightweight machine gun), 9 AK-47rifle, 20 INSAS rifle and 12 SLR rifles. At this time, around 2834 Naxalites had been arrested and it was revealed that 1852 Naxalites had surrendered.
