New Delhi: – The demand for medical oxygen has increased tremendously because of the explosion of the Coronavirus pandemic. The states having the highest incidence of Coronavirus are facing a severe shortage of oxygen. Some states have already built oxygen production projects. The challenge of oxygen supply is massive, and the defence ministry has decided to airlift 23 mobile oxygen production plants. Recently, the government announced the decision to open military hospitals for Corona patients. These portable oxygen plants will be installed in these hospitals.

Four days ago, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held an important meeting. After that, all the three defence forces and other defence establishments were instructed to make necessary purchases to build medical infrastructure, given the Coronavirus pandemic. The defence forces were awarded the financial rights for use in emergencies. Under this, mobile oxygen plants will be purchased from Germany on an immediate basis. Defence ministry spokesman Bhushan Babu informed that these plants would be installed in the Armed Forces Medical Services hospitals to treat Corona patients.   

In all, 23 mobile oxygen plants will be purchased from Germany, and these plants will be airlifted from Germany in a week and brought to India. Each plant can deliver 40 litres of oxygen per minute. The defence ministry informed that 2400 litres of oxygen would be available for use from every plant. Another official announced that the air force has completed preparations to airlift these plants, and as soon the paperwork is complete, these plants will be brought to India. The official informed that more such plants might be purchased from foreign countries in the coming times.
