There is an atmosphere of terror in the citizens, given the increasing attacks on the Hindu and Sikh communities in Afghanistan. Therefore, the demand for giving these communities asylum in India was being made. The first batch of 11 Sikh immigrants came to India in June. Thereafter, 182 Hindu and Sikh refugees reached India from Afghanistan on Thursday evening. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, said that all these people have been placed under isolation.

25 people had been killed in a suicide attack launched by the Taliban, targeting the Sikh community in March. 14 Hindu and Sikh people were also killed in an attack in Jalalabad. In 1980, there were 250,000 Hindu and Sikh people in Afghanistan. But because of the increasing violence, as of today, there are merely 1,350 Hindu and Sikh people in Afghanistan. Increasing terrorism, violence and discrimination have created fear in these communities, and they are trying to come to India.

Last year, the Indian parliament cleared the bill, Citizenship Amendment Act, for granting Indian citizenship to the minority communities of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians from the neighbouring countries. It is said that under this very act, these immigrants can get Indian citizenship in the future.
