18 die in violence in Jammu & Kashmir, 250 injured including 121 policemen

Srinagar / Jammu (Agencies) : 18 people died in violent protests by separatists after the death of ‘Hizbul Mujahiddin’ commander, Burhan Wani in a skirmish. At many places, security forces were attacked and police stations were targeted by rioting mobs. In this violence more than 121 policemen have been injured out of which 9 are in critical condition. Separatists in Kashmir are inciting these violent demonstrations and it has once again been revealed that some of these attacks have been pre-planned.

A high level meeting was held in Delhi on Sunday under the leadership of Home Minister Rajnath Singh to review the situation in Kashmir. After this the Home Minister phone-called J&K’s Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti. During the call, Singh informed Mufti about sending additional central security forces to Jammu & Kashmir. He also assured that the situation in Kashmir will be under control very soon.

Government is trying hard to ease the tensions in Kashmir. Jammu & Kashmir government has appealed to all the political parties and separatists for peace. J&K’s Education Minister Neem Akhtar warned protesters, not to become puppets at the hands of those who provocate violence.

Pakistan-supported terrorist organization ‘Hizbul Mujahiddin’s J&K’s commander ‘Burhan Wani’ was killed on Friday night. Pro-Pakistan separatists had appealed for total shutdown in Kashmir after this incident. The following shutdown saw a large-scale violence. It was predicted well before, that during this shutdown there will be violence. Considering the tensions, Amarnath Yatra was also halted. But on Sunday, Amarnath pilgrimage was restarted under tight security.

Still 10 districts in Kashmir are under curfew. Many violent incidences were happening on Sunday as well. A violent mob targeted J&K police mobile bunker in Sangam area of Anantnag district on Sunday. Even though other policemen succeeded in escaping from the bunker, violent mob threw this bunker along with the driver in the Jhelum river. It was reports that the driver is dead and more than 25 policemen are injured.

There was an incident of terrorists entering in one of the policeman’s house and firing on a Police Havildar, on Saturday night. It also came to notice that these violent protesters were using petrol bombs. All these attacks prove that all of these attacks were not spontaneous but well-planned. On Saturday, violent mob attacked Damhal Hajipora police station. 5 soldiers from this station are missing after the attack.
