100% production of lithium batteries will be indigenous in next six months

New Delhi: – The lithium batteries required in the Electric Vehicles (e-vehicles) will be manufactured indigenously in the next six months. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, claimed that on this foundation, India would become the leader in manufacturing e-vehicles in the times to come. Lithium-batteriesThe union government is promoting e-vehicles in a big way. Target has been set that the maximum number of vehicles running on Indian roads will be e-vehicles, resulting in saving billions of dollars in fuel imports. But to make this possible, the supply of lithium required in the batteries and manufacturing of batteries will prove vital. On this front, India was totally dependent on China. But reports had been received that India is sourcing Lithium from Argentina, Chile and Bolivia, known as the Lithium Triangle in the world. It was also reported that Indian scientists have developed the technology required to manufacture lithium batteries.

While speaking at a virtual conference, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the automobile manufacturing companies are being encouraged to develop Flexible Fuel Engines, and discussions on this subject have been completed with the automobile manufacturers. Gadkari said that India is headed to take the lead in e-vehicle manufacturing, which will take some time. He expressed confidence that in the coming times, India will be the leader in e-vehicle manufacturing. Gadkari claimed that India would take a significant leap in this sector on the foundation of the indigenous lithium batteries technology.

India has tremendous capability. While expressing confidence that in the next six months, 100% lithium batteries will be indigenously manufactured. The union minister clarified that there is no shortage of lithium in the country.

India is also working on Hydrogen Fuel Cell, and in the coming times, this will replace conventional fuels. Every year, India imports fuel oil worth Rs 7 trillion. This demand will double in the next four to five years. This will create a major burden on the Indian economy. Gadkari underlined that by taking this into account, it is essential to think regarding alternative fuels.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Gadkari appealed to Tesla Motors to start e-vehicles manufacture earliest in the country. Two months ago, Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors signed an agreement with the Karnataka government for setting up a manufacturing facility. But as soon as Tesla Motors announced the Indian facility, China started accusing the company of stopping it. Tesla Motors has a manufacturing facility in China.
