More than 100 Pro-Russian mercenaries killed in US attack in Syria

Washington/Moscow: The action by the United States and allied military in the Euphrates river region in North East Syria has resulted in killing of more than 100 pro-Russian soldiers, claimed a US military official. The information received says that this also includes some Russian nationals. But, Russia has not confirmed the claim. But, with this attack it is evident that a conflict is sparking between the two superpowers in Syria.

The military base at Deir ez-Zor area in the Euphrates river region is under the control of pro-US ‘Syrian Democratic Front’ (SDF) and the Kurds. The Syrian army and the allied forces are carrying out powerful attacks on the base, to gain control. The United States had appealed that Russia should stop these attacks by the Syrian army.

The US had criticised that these attacks are a violation of the peace talks with the rebels. The United States has sternly warned that if Russia does not stop these attacks by the Syrian army, United States will have to enter the conflict. But, as the Syrian army continued their attacks on ‘Deir ez-Zor’ the United States initiated the attacks on the Syrian army locations.

There have been claims that there were a lot of lives lost in the skirmishes between the pro-US and pro-Syria groups over the last week. The Syrian attempt to gain control of the military base here has failed and more than 200 pro-Syrian soldiers were killed, informed a US military officer. 200 to 300 soldiers have been wounded. It is said that there are many soldiers of the Russian race among these.

Meanwhile Russia has not yet confirmed the information from the United States. The Russian Foreign Ministry has claimed that there were not Russian soldiers in the region, the United States has claimed. The pro-Russian front has been faced with such major casualties for the first time. A strong reaction is expected from Russia about this.

Russia criticises US after the Syrian attack

Instead of establishing structure with a consensus of all the parties, the United States is taking dangerous and unilateral steps. The United Statesis trying to create a separate country for the Kurds in Syria, criticised Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister. Dividing Syria is the main objective of the United States. Since the last few days, the United States has has participated in the conflict to protect the ‘Kurd Rebels’ in Syria, pointed Lavrov. Lavrov accused the United States of trying to break Syria. Even Turkey is levelling the same accusation against the US and it is also against the US stand about the Kurds.
