Veteran actor Sridevi passes away at 54

Mumbai: Sridevi, the well-known actress who established her identity in Bollywood through her talent, died of cardiac arrest on Saturday in Dubai. She was 54 years old. Sridevi was in Dubai to attend a wedding where she suddenly passed away. The entire film fraternity is mourning her death.

Sridevi had gone to Dubai for a wedding of a family member with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi, but she suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday night. Attempts were made to take her to the hospital but, it is learnt that she had already died before she could be taken to the hospital.

Actor-SrideviShe started her acting career as a child artist at a mere age of four years in the movie ‘Thunaivan’. Subsequently, she started her career in the Hindi film industry with the film ‘Solva Sawan’ at the age of sixteen. She never looked back after the success of Solva Sawan. Her roles in ‘Sadma’, ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Jaag Utha Insaan’, ‘Akalmand’, ‘Mawaali’, ‘Chalbaaz’, ‘Tohfa’, ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Ghar Sansar’, ‘Naya Kadam’, ‘Maqsad’, ‘Gumrah’, ‘Mr. India’ and ‘Khuda Gawah’ have left lasting images in the hearts of her fans. She created a unique impression with her roles in ‘Chandni’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Judaai’ and ‘Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raja’.

She took a break after ‘Judaai’ in 1997.  In 2012, she made a come-back with the film ‘English Vinglish’. She won many hearts with her performance in ‘Mom’ released last year. “Mom” proved to be her last movie. She acted in about 100 Hindi movies. She will be seen in a guest appearance later this year in the movie ‘Zero’, to be released in December.

Sridevi has been honoured by being awarded the ‘Padma Shri’, by the Indian government for her achievements in the acting field. The whole country, along with the film industry, is saddened by the news of her demise. According to sources, a post mortem examination will be performed after which the mortal remains will be brought to Mumbai late on Sunday night. Her last rites will be performed on Monday.
