US to sale 5 Poseidon surveillance aircraft to Germany for keeping eye on Russia

Washington/Berlin: – After deploying bombers to stop the Russian activities in Europe, the United States has initiated more aggressive steps against Russia. The US Department of State has approved the supply of five Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft to Germany. These are known to be advanced aircraft with Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare capabilities.

posaidon-russia-usOn Friday, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency, a unit in the US State Department, gave information regarding the supply of the aircraft to Germany. As per the information, the Boeing company will be supplying five P-8A Poseidon aircraft to Germany. Systems like engines, sensors, radars, electronic countermeasure systems software and other related systems will also be a part of the deal. The agreement is worth nearly USD 1.77 billion. As per the agreement, a team of US officials also will be deputed to Germany for two years.   

The Defence Security Cooperation Agency clarified in its statement, ‘The supply of these aircraft has been sanctioned for strengthening the security of a NATO ally. This agreement will help to maintain the political and economic stability of Europe. This concerned agreement is important even for the US foreign policy and national security.’  

The new US President, Joe Biden, had indicated targeting Russia in the outline of the foreign policy, announced. The decision to supply advanced surveillance aircraft to Germany appears to be a part of the same strategy. Last month, the Biden administration took many decisions targeting Russia, including the deployment of bombers at the airbase in Norway and the aid of USD 125 million to Ukraine.  

Meanwhile, a Swedish military agency claimed that although the United States is taking steps to augment the security of its NATO allies, Russia will emerge stronger in a conflict between Europe and Russia. Swedish Defence Research Agency has published a report regarding this. The report warns that Russia has a huge military might, and based on that, it can launch a rapid attack on the eastern European NATO members. The Swedish agency has also warned that by the time NATO reacts, Russia will have acquired a large part of Europe.   

A few days ago, a former Polish military advisor also had made a statement that Russia can gain control over Baltic countries in two to four days.
