US President announces cooperation between Israel and Morocco

Washington/Jerusalem/Rabat: US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Morocco would establish cooperation. Morocco becomes the fourth Arab country, after the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Sudan, to establish cooperation with Israel, under the Abraham agreement. While the Arab countries have welcomed the development, terrorist organisations, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, from the Gaza Strip have criticised the agreement.

US President Trump made two important agreements on Thursday. At this time, President Trump recognised the sovereign right of Morocco on Western Sahara and announced the cooperation between Israel and Morocco. President Trump announced that two of the United States’ important allies have agreed to have complete diplomatic cooperation. This is a major victory for peace in the Middle East. This is a historic decision.  

White House released information regarding the development. Israel and Morocco will soon be signing a cooperation agreement and the White House clarified that this would happen during President Trump’s tenure as President. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Moroccan King Mohammed VI, welcomed President Trump’s announcement. The Israeli Prime Minister reacted ‘This is an important step towards peace. Today the light of peace became brighter in the Middle East.  

Moroccan King Mohammed VI said that three major steps would be taken under the cooperation with Israel. King Mohammed VI clarified that direct flights would be started to Israel for the Jewish people, official bilateral cooperation will be established. Moreover, efforts for cooperation in economic and technology sectors will be made. Egypt along with UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, welcomed the newly developing cooperation between Israel and Morocco.   

UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi expressed confidence that there will be more stability in the sector with this development. Whereas, Palestinian President Mohammed Abbas’s Fatah party has avoided reacting to the development. Hamas and Islamic Jihad from the Gaza Strip accused Morocco of betraying the Palestinian people.
