us-blackwingThe Systems Command of the US navy has placed an inquiry for 120 drones with the US company AeroVironment. The US navy will be purchasing Blackwing-10C drones required for espionage activities. Negotiations are being held between the company and the US navy, and the first drone will be deployed on a submarine by August. It is claimed that US submarines will be equipped with Blackwing-10C in the next two years.

This drone, which can be launched from the submarines’ launching tubes, has a width of just 27 inches and weighs a mere 1.81 kilograms. The submarine does not have to surface to launch the drone. The drone can be launched even from the seabed. It is claimed that the exchange of information is extremely fast with this drone, which equipped with electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Analysts claim that these drones, small in size and launched from underwater, become difficult to trace on the radar. Moreover, the Blackwing-10C can be launched even from a drone submarine. This will tremendously increase the capability of the US navy.

The US navy is working on developing drones that could be launched from a submarine since 2013. After experimenting for a few years, the Blackwing-10C was thoroughly tested in 2019 and 2020. USS Annapolis submarine was used in the testing. After completing the testing, the process of deployment of the drone in the US navy was started.

The US navy is making rapid moves to launch swarm drones from an uncrewed submarine of an uncrewed warship. It is claimed that the US navy has signed an agreement worth more than USD 30 million with the Raytheon Company for this purpose. It is being said that the Coyote drone of the Raytheon company has been selected for this purpose.

Meanwhile, China has already started rapid movements in the marine drone sector. China had even demonstrated some of these drones in the military parade. In contrast, it was reported that China was preparing to deploy marine drones in the Indian Ocean region. Reports of Indonesian fishermen catching a Chinese drone had been received a few months ago. China had also tested swarm drones within its marine limits.
