US and foreign warships will not make Persian Gulf safe, Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad ZarifThe United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Arab allies have come together to form a front against Iran in the Persian Gulf. Against this background, Iran too has initiated moves to establish an independent front against the United States. Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister held discussions with the Defence Ministers of Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. After that, Zarif visited Qatar and claimed that the United States cannot ensure the safety of the Persian Gulf while talking to a news channel.

For this, he referred to the attack by a US warship on an Iranian passenger airliner, in 1988. Zarif said ‘Looking at the experience from the past, the warships from the United States and other foreign countries cannot provide security to the Persian Gulf. The security of the Persian Gulf marine sector will be ensured only if the United States withdrew from the region.’

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Zarif claimed that the situation in the Gulf has become explosive because of the weapons cooperation, worth USD 100 billion, between the United States and the Gulf countries.
