External Affairs Minister Tillerson was on a two-day visit to China as part of preparation for a probable visit of the US President Donald Trump to China. In the course of his visit, he met many Chinese leaders and officials including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, senior leader Yang Jiechi and others. A meeting of delegates of the United States and China was organised. During this meeting, it has been said that discussions were held mainly on North Korea and bilateral trade. During a press conference after meeting with Chinese leaders, the US External Affairs Minister said that they are open for discussions with North Korea.

‘United States hopes that the problems of the Korean region should be resolved. Presently this area is very turbulent. Everyone involved in the crisis wants the current situation to cool down. It would definitely help if North Korea ceases firing missiles’, Foreign Minister Tillerson clarified America’s role in these words.

Last week, US Secretary of Treasury, Steven Mnuchin said that President Trump does not want nuclear war and America will make every effort to avoid it, thus eliminating any possibility of a nuclear war. Also, Tillerson has revealed that the discussion route is open in the US and North Korea directly. In the near future, it is believed that the possibility of waging a war in the Korean field would have been greatly reduced.

Earlier, last month, there was a strong verbal confrontation between President Trump and President of North Korea ‘Kim Jong-un’. Trump had ridiculed Kim Jong-un by calling him a rocket-man. Trump had warned that North Korea’s dictatorship would be taken to a great test. North Korean dictators criticized Trump on an inferior level. After that Trump had shot back calling the North Korean dictator a madman.

North Korea had also threatened to use ‘hydrogen bomb‘. On the backdrop of this threat, the US had started practising its war exercises with bombers and aircraft carriers in the Korean region. China and Russia had criticized this practice of America as war provoking. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that the United States, which is convinced of North Korea’s nuclear weapons, cannot attack the country.
