Washington: The United States is developing a naval fleet that will only focus on increasing cooperation with India for keeping an eye on the dangerous Chinese activities and stop them. US Naval Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite made this announcement. This announcement by Braithwaite, just before his visit to India, gains substantial strategic importance. This will strengthen India-US cooperation, and it will be easier for both the countries to rein in Chinese ambitions.
The responsibility of keeping a watch on the Chinese movements in the Pacific region lies with the Seventh US Naval Fleet deployed in Japan. But Naval Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite announced the new fleet indicating that the United States cannot only depend on the Seventh Naval Fleet for this purpose. Braithwaite said that along with this, the United States would have to make a cooperation with allies like India and Singapore more comprehensive.
Braithwaite presented the US stand in precise words saying the cooperation with India, Singapore and other regional countries will maintain a proper power balance in the sector. The United States consistently alleges that the power balance in the Indo-Pacific sector is disturbed because of Chinese aggression. The United States has repeatedly stressed that the military cooperation with India will become the force for maintaining the power balance in the Indo-Pacific sector. Braithwaite reiterated the US stand and said that he was very confident about his upcoming India visit.
The United States alone cannot tackle Chinese domination. The United States needs the cooperation of its trusted allies. Braithwaite made a suggestive statement that the United States is making efforts in that direction. Braithwaite clarified that detailed discussions would be held on the security issues faced by both the countries and the other important issue of deciding how can the navies of both countries cooperate with each other.
Meanwhile, the United States seems to have made preparations to set up the centre for the new fleet by developing the naval base in Singapore. Most importantly, it is very significant for India that the highest priority of this fleet will be increasing cooperation with the Indian Navy.
