US and Iranian warships encounter faceoff amidst rising tensions over nu

Washington/Tehran: While the tension between the United States and Iran is increasing due to stalling of the talks on the Iran nuclear deal, it was revealed that US and Iranian warships were involved in a dangerous faceoff. The Fifth Fleet of the US navy shared the information regarding this incident. Iranian speed boats approached just fifty yards away from the US warships while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. The US officials said the US warship used warning signals and flares to drive the Iranian speed boats away.

It is believed that the talks on the Iranian nuclear deal have currently fallen through. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has claimed that Iran is expediting the activation of centrifuges for enriching uranium through the second set of advanced centrifuges in the underground Frodo facility for their nuclear program. Therefore, this seems to confirm that Iran is again taking rapid steps toward building nuclear weapons.

While the Iranian nuclear activities are increasing, the incident in the Gulf of Hormuz indicates growing tensions between the United States and Iran. USS Sirocco and USNS Choctaw County, both a part of the Fifth Fleet of the US navy, were passing through the Strait of Hormuz to the Persian Gulf when three-speed boats from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards naval fleet headed straight towards them and only changed their direction just about fifty yards from the US warships.

As one of the speed boats approached close to 50 yards from the warship, the US warship issued warnings and fired flares to drive the speed boat away. The US navy has even published a video of the incident. The US navy said that the development is hazardous from the marine security point of view. Iran has still not reacted to this. But incidents of Iranian speed boats passing close to the US and other foreign warships have been reported even in the past.
