Shock trials of US aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford conducted successfully

Washington – Last week, the modern aircraft carrier warship, USS Gerald R Ford, which is to be deployed in service to the US Navy for over the last year, had its trial conducted. The United States Army conducted a shock trial of the warship by carrying blasts of about 20 tons worth of explosives. But, this trial caused mild tremors towards the East Coast of the United States. These trials were conducted to study the stability of the warship and internal systems during an enemy attack.

For this, the Ford-class warships are being produced at a faster pace. Moreover, CVN-78, i.e. the USS Gerald R Ford, is the first aircraft carrier being tested during the trial. This warship, based on atomic energy, has met almost every criterion. Last week, the US Navy conducted a Full Ship Shock Trial – FSST.

Accordingly, a 20 ton-bomb explosion was carried out near this aircraft carrier that weighs about one lakh tons. In case of such a powerful explosion, the external framework of the warship, reactors and internal systems must remain intact. If any of these systems face collateral damage, it can significantly affect the war. It could be fatal. Thus, the shock trials are considered significant for the warships.

Besides, over the last few days, the Russian Navy has been conducting the exercise in the Pacific Ocean to attack enemy aircraft carrier warships. The Russian destroyers have allegedly reached the Hawaii islands in the United States. In such circumstances, the gravity of these shock trials conducted by the United States increases.
