Ukraine makes unrealistic claims of securing EU and NATO membership

Moscow/Kyiv: Ukraine is facing the brunt of Russia’s intensified attacks on Donbas and other regions. They have started making unrealistic claims about securing European Union and NATO membership. Oleksiy Arestovych, an advisor to the Ukrainian President, has claimed that Ukraine has secured a backdoor entry through the Three Seas Initiative by being a participating partner. Arestovych also claimed that Ukraine has become an undeclared but a De Facto member of NATO.

Every day, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is becoming more aggressive and gruesome. Russian forces have increased the intensity of the attacks and have gained control over three strategic locations in Luhansk. Ukrainian officials have confirmed that 55% of the Donbas region has gone under Russian control. Russia carried out large-scale attacks with rockets, missiles, and bombs in the Severodonetsk and Lysychansk regions, along with Kharkiv, Bakhmut, Sumi and Mykolaiv regions. The Russian invasion is forcing a situation where the local officials and analysts are indicating that the Ukrainian forces will have to retreat to the city of Sloviansk.

Suffering huge losses at the hands of Russia, Ukraine has started efforts to strengthen relations with the western countries to get extensive assistance. Senior Ukrainian officials are making tall claims regarding memberships of the European Union and NATO. Oleksiy Arestovych, the Ukrainian President’s advisor, made unrealistic statements during an interview. He said Ukraine had gained a backdoor entry into the European Union through the Three Seas Initiative. Arestovych noted that 12 members of the European Union are a part of the Three Seas Initiative which will help Ukraine get substantial financial and other assistance. He also stated that Ukraine has become a De Facto member of NATO. Arestovych said that although Ukraine is not officially a member of NATO, Ukraine is receiving all kinds of assistance from NATO members. The United States has assured that this will continue.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament has approved the proposal to make Ukraine a member of the European Union during a meeting held on Thursday. A Meeting of the 27 members of the European Union was held after that. Although the chief of the Union has made tall claims, some member countries are not keen on giving membership to Ukraine.
