21 killed in terror attacks in DR Congo, third attack in two weeks

Kinshasa: – Minimum of 21 people were killed in terror attacks in DR Congo, in Africa. The attacks were carried out in northeastern and southern parts of DR Congo. The military bases near Lubumbashi, the second-largest city in DR Congo, on Sunday morning. It has been reported that at the same time, a Christian place of worship was attacked in the northeast and it was set on fire.

ADF, a terrorist group having links to both IS and Al Qaeda, is suspected to be behind the attacks. This is the third attack carried out by ADF, in the last two weeks. The military bases were attacked in Kimbembe and Kabiti near Lubumbashi. Four soldiers, along with a civilian, were killed in the attack. It is informed that six terrorists were also killed in the conflict that followed.   

The terrorists targeted Endaya village, in the Ituri province, in the northeast. Along with 13 civilians, one soldier was killed in the attack. The terrorists set a Christian place of worship on fire. Officials informed that four terrorists were killed in action taken by the military following the attack. The ADF terrorists have carried out three attacks in the last two weeks. More than 20 people had been killed in the previous two attacks.   

ADF is one of the major terrorist organisations operating in the African countries of Uganda and DR Congo. It had been claimed that the organisation’s strength was depleted, given the actions taken by the militaries of both the countries. But the attacks are on the rise in the new year, making one believe that the organisation is once again gaining strength. In view of the frequent attacks, accusations that the military as well as the security agencies have failed miserably, are being made.
