India-Uzbekistan discuss EXIM of agro-products; MEA Joint Secretary (ERS), Manish Prabhat  

New Delhi: India and Uzbekistan are holding discussions for the import-export of agricultural produce, stated the newly appointed MEA Joint Secretary, Manish Prabhat. India’s trade with the central Asian countries is about $2 billion. Even though the number seems to be less compared to other countries, India’s political relations and connect via other sectors is great. India is making further efforts to strengthen these ties, asserted the MEA Joint Secretary.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry organised The Way Forward for Developing India-Central Asia Air Corridor webinar. During the webinar, Secretary Prabhat cited the ongoing discussions between India and Uzbekistan for agricultural import-export. However, India’s annual trade with the Central Asian countries is less. But trade and political relations are two poles apart, mentioned the Secretary.   

Not just Uzbekistan, but India asserts an increase of trade with Kazakhstan too. Moreover, the MEA Secretary also showed keenness about increasing the air traffic between the Central Asian nations and India. Furthermore, Vandana Aggarwal, Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, said that establishing an air corridor will be very useful in passenger growth and goods traffic.
