Taliban launches attacks to capture Panjshir

Peshawar/United Nations – The Taliban had declared the formation of the Afghan government on Friday. However, it has been postponed by a day without any clarification. The media is speculating the reason for the delay to be the challenge faced by the Taliban from the Northern Alliance in the Panjshir valley. The Taliban had launched attacks to capture the Panjshir valley. However, the Northern Alliance claims the attacks to be unsuccessful. Amrullah Saleh claims that the resistance shown by the Northern Alliance against the Taliban is the only ray of hope.

The Taliban has handed over the responsibility of the still-unoccupied Panjshir province to Amir Khan Muttaqi, who had played a crucial role in the Doha negotiations. Muttaqi has ordered a strong attack on Panjshir after accepting the responsibility. For the past two days, hundreds of Taliban militants have entered the Panjshir valley by using the seized US military vehicles. Muttaqi is claimed to have initiated plans to mobilise the Black Hawk helicopters of the US military to capture Panjshir and merge it with Afghanistan.

Along with the military action, the Taliban and its supporters have started propaganda on social media claiming the Taliban to seize 11 security posts and killing 34 fighters of the Northern Alliance, led by Amrullah Saleh and Ahmad Massoud. It has come to light that social media accounts in Pakistan are fuelling this propaganda.

Instead, the Northern Alliance claimed the Taliban to have suffered heavy casualties with some militants fleeing the province. Photos and videos were released by the Northern Alliance to support their claims. This led to cutting off the telephone and internet in the Panjshir Valley.

On Friday, the pro-Taliban media made new claims that the terrorist organisation had succeeded in the Panjshir valley. It was also reported that Saleh and Massoud had fled to Tajikistan. However, this could not be confirmed. But in case of the Northern Alliance defeat, there are fears of the Taliban committing war crimes and inhumane massacres in the Panjshir valley.
