Taliban defeats Pakistan military and captures Wakhan Corridor

Kabul: Tension prevailing between the Taliban and the Pakistan Army is becoming apparent even other than the Durand Line. The Taliban demolished the pillars erected by the Pakistan Army in the Wakhan Corridor area with hammer blows. It was the first attack by the Taliban after talks with Pakistani officials last week. Analysts claim that this Taliban control of the Wakhan Corridor has shaken Pakistani efforts to expand its areas of influence in Central Asia through Afghanistan.

Taliban defeats Pakistan military and captures Wakhan CorridorLast week, a Taliban video went viral in Afghanistan and Pakistan on social media. In this, the commanders of the Taliban had gathered in large numbers in the ‘Wakhan’ area of Badakhshan province in the northeast of Afghanistan. One of these commanders demolished a pillar erected by the Pakistan Army near the Wakhan border with a hammer. At this time, the Taliban announced slogans and fired AK47 rifles in the air to cheer the action. The Pakistan Army has not responded to the video. But the Afghan media published the news quoting the Taliban.

Taking advantage of the instability in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul last year, Pakistan had set up pillars in the Wakhan Corridor area. The Afghan media claimed that the Taliban say that these pillars are a challenge to Afghanistan’s sovereignty and that the action taken to destroy them is justified. So far, the Taliban have destroyed barbed wire fences and military posts along the Durand Line in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, FATA provinces. But it is claimed this time that the Taliban action directly in the Wakhan Corridor has rocked Pakistan and China.

Much of the Wakhan Corridor falls within `Afghanistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. India claims that this is its territory and not Pakistan’s. But currently, Pakistan is illegally occupying it. Pakistan and China are implementing infrastructure projects in these places. Pakistan planned to use it to develop trade in Central Asian countries. For this, Pakistan Army took advantage of the chaos created in Afghanistan last year. This would also make it easier for China to enter Afghanistan through Xinjiang. But analysts are pointing out that the Taliban has shocked both countries by taking this action in Wakhan.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani delegation arrived in Afghanistan last week. Senior Taliban leaders mediated between Tehreek-e-Taliban and Pakistan. But on the issue of the Durand Line, the Taliban stood with Tehreek and reprimanded Pakistan. Also, the government and system expected by the Taliban are not in power in Pakistan. Therefore, the Taliban warned that Pakistan would soon be freed from corrupt politicians and armies, like Afghanistan. In just a few hours after that, the Taliban took this action in Wakhan and showed that their warning was not empty.
