Every country except China recognises Taiwan as independent state; French daily ‘Le Figaro’ lashes out

Paris/Taipei/Vilnius: – Only communist regime in China thinks that Taiwan is their province. According to the leading French daily Le Figaro, Taiwan is a nation for the rest of the world. Lithuania’s approval of Taiwan to open an independent political office has upset China, which has recalled its ambassador to Lithuania. While publishing the news in this regard, the French daily also reminded that Taiwan has a democratically elected government. The Chinese media has also become aggressive on the Lithuanian issue, with the government mouthpiece Global Times threatening that China will join hands with Russia to teach Lithuania a lesson.

Last month, Taiwan announced the establishment of an independent diplomatic office, in Lithuania, in Eastern Europe. In particular, the office will be called ‘The Taiwanese Representative Office’. Lithuania has also officially endorsed Taiwan’s proposal, with indications of opening its diplomat office in Taiwan. The policy adopted by Lithuania, one of the smallest countries in the European Union, has upset the Chinese regime.

As a result, China has become aggressive and has recalled its ambassador to Lithuania. At the same time, it has warned of expelling Lithuania’s ambassador to China. Leading countries, including the European Union, have taken cognisance of the Chinese move and expressed displeasure over the Chinese actions. Leading French dailies have also lashed out at China while covering Lithuania-China developments. Le Figaro reports that the ruling Chinese regime throws a tantrum at the use of the name Taiwan alone. While praising Lithuania, it is pointed out that Taiwan is opening its first diplomatic office in a European country.

The European Union‘s foreign department also has criticised the Chinese decision. The United States has vowed to stand firmly behind Lithuania. Lithuanian President Gitanus Noceda has strongly supported the decision on Taiwan, saying his country is independent and free to decide how to deal with other countries. Taiwan has also welcomed Lithuania’s role, saying it was a bold decision.

Meanwhile, the Chinese media has taken an aggressive stance on the issue, with mouthpiece Global Times. It is threatening Lithuania by publishing three separate articles in a span of 24-hour. An article cites Lithuania’s actions against Russia and warns that joining hands with Russia and Belarus teaches the country a lesson. Other European countries should not even consider following the path of Lithuania, the Global Times warned. In support of its warning, it also accuses Lithuania of appeasing the United States with this decision regarding Taiwan.

The agreement on diplomatic offices in Lithuania and Taiwan has come as a shock to China. China has begun to take a more aggressive stance against Taiwan over the last few years. Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned that Taiwan will be merged with China under any circumstances. Chinese military officials have openly warned of a military strike to seize control of Taiwan. At the same time, on the other hand, the communist regime is trying to pull the countries that recognise the independent identity to Taiwan onto its side. The Lithuanian development seems to have jolted the Chinese efforts.
