India and central Asian countries to hold a virtual summit  

New Delhi: – The heads of state of the central Asian countries cannot attend the Republic Day function due to the rising threat of the Coronavirus pandemic. But they will be attending the function through virtual media. After that, on 27th January, Prime Minister Modi will be holding virtual discussions with the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The Indian foreign ministry informed that this would be the first summit between the Indian Prime Minister and the country heads of all the five central Asian countries. The foreign ministry expressed confidence that the increasing dialogue and cooperation with the central Asian countries will reflect in the meeting. The statement issued by the foreign ministry refers to the central Asian countries as the extended neighbourhood.   

Discussions will be held between Prime Minister Modi and the Presidents of the central Asian countries for initiating necessary steps to take the cooperation between India and the central Asian countries to new heights. The statement also says that regional and international developments will also feature in the discussions at the same time. The foreign ministry statement expresses confidence that this will further strengthen the partnerships between India and the central Asian countries.   

Last month, a meeting was held between Foreign Ministers of India and the central Asian countries. Even before that, the Foreign Ministers of the central Asian countries had participated in the meeting convened by India on the Afghanistan related matters. Pakistan was creating obstacles in the trade between India and the central Asian countries. But Iran has opened the Chabahar port for freight movement between India and Central Asian countries. This will majorly benefit the trade between India and the central Asian countries. India and the central Asian countries will get major benefits from this and this will prove to be an important development in the future.
