DRDO successfully tests ATGM and ABHYAS 

Ahmednagar/Balasore: – Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) tested the Laser Guided Anti-Tank Missile. This missile was launched from the Arjun Tank, and it precisely hit the target three kilometres away. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO scientists following the successful testing of this missile which is capable of hitting a fast-moving target. At the same time, DRDO successfully tested the High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) at the Balasore base.

India is consistently increasing its defence preparedness. Recognising the threat form it neighbours, China and Pakistan, the defence forces are being made stronger with the supply of advanced weaponry. The institutions like the DRDO are developing modern weapon systems, keeping future challenges in view. One such missile developed by the DRDO was tested on Tuesday.   

The Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Missile was test fired from the Arjun Tank at the KK range military base in Ahmednagar. The DRDO has developed this missile under the Cannon Launch Missile Development Program undertaken by the Armament Research and Development Establishment. The missile, having a range of four kilometres, can hit a moving target with precision.   

This missile which can be launched from various platforms will prove very effective in hitting the targets on the Pakistan and China borders. Along with targets on the surface, the missile can also be used to target low-flying enemy helicopters.   

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India is proud of the DRDO while congratulating DRDO on the successful test. The Defence Minister expressed confidence that the dependence on foreign countries will reduce, with DRDO developing various weapon systems.   

Meanwhile, a few hours before testing the Laser Guided Anti-Tank Missile launched from the Arjun tank, and High-speed Expendable Aerial Target was tested at the Balasore in Odisha. This is a drone and is also known as ABHYAS. ABHYAS can be used in various missile tests. This missile was tested in the month of May, last year, before this.
