Strong reactions come from Myanmar against Chinese interference

Naypyidaw/Beijing: – An intense reaction has emanated from the Myanmar population regarding Chinese assistance to the country’s military regime and other interference. A few days ago, senior Chinese officials held a meeting with the military regime in Myanmar and ordered them to protect Chinese investments and other interests in the country. A warning was issued on social media that if China thinks that the developments in Myanmar is an internal matter, then the Chinese projects in Myanmar too, are an internal matter of Myanmar.

Last month, the Myanmar military overthrew the elected government and took over power through a coup. Although strong reactions were received from the international community, China took a stand that this is an internal matter and the country’s stability is more important. The meetings of the Chinese officials with the Myanmar military officials before the coup also had been noteworthy. Many leading countries, including Japan, had accused that the military coup in Myanmar is the handiwork of China and these are Chinese efforts to increase its influence in the region.

The flags being waved, against China, during the protests being held since a month in Myanmar also endorse the theory. Against this background, the people of Myanmar openly reprimanding China, over social media, also draws attention. The charter of demands made by, Bai Tian, senior official from the Chinese foreign department, was published following the meeting between Myanmar and China.

The statement expresses concerns over the security of the fuel pipeline project built by China in Myanmar and other Chinese interests. China warned that if there is any damage caused to the Chinese projects, the international investment in Myanmar will be under threat. Moreover, the relations between the two countries will also be disturbed. The population of Myanmar has expressed extreme resentment over the Chinese warning and nearly a million citizens have condemned the Chinese statements.

A very sharp reaction has been posted on the Myanmar social media ‘If the Chinese government feels that the developments if Myanmar is an internal matter of Myanmar, please note that an explosion in the fuel pipeline is also an internal matter of Myanmar. We would certainly like to know your opinion regarding this. As of now, the population of Myanmar has nothing to lose. If China uses veto right in the UN Security Council for Myanmar, please remember that the population of Myanmar will also use the right against China.’
