The Chinese communist regime runs aggressive publicity campaigns to increase its influence and retaliate against adversaries. A report published in this regard revealed that China uses social media and media in foreign countries for these campaigns. These campaigns had gained further momentum given the Coronavirus pandemic.

Only a few months ago, the Chinese media claiming that the demand that a fresh investigation should be carried out regarding the origin of the coronavirus pandemic had been accepted, conceding to US pressure, had been exposed. Chinese government media had levelled accusations against the World Health Organisation and the United States, citing the statements made by Swiss scientist William Edwards. But the Swiss embassy had clarified that no such scientist ever existed and had warned China to withdraw the fake news. This foiled the Chines plan of a fake campaign regarding the Coronavirus pandemic.

Along with Corona, the Chinese communist regime is also running aggressive campaigns over Uyghurs in Xinjiang, pro-democracy agitation in Hongkong, Tibet, and Taiwan. Fake information regarding these issues was being spread on social media and through groups. China ran many campaigns to make allegations against the western countries to tarnish their image. It is clarified that Twitter, Instagram and Facebook initiated the actions after receiving complaints against these campaigns on a massive scale.

Twitter informed that action has been taken against two networks with more than 2,000 accounts. Facebook took action against 524 accounts and 20 pages. Whereas Instagram shut down 86 China-linked accounts.
