Situation at LAC in eastern Ladakh remains fragile and dangerous

New Delhi – China cannot expect to cooperate with India under the pretence that nothing has happened by jeopardising peace and harmony on LAC by violating agreements with India. However, India has made China aware of this violation. But still, the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh remains fragile and dangerous because the armies of both countries are deployed very close to each other in this area, said External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.

Army chief General Manoj Pandey said a day ago that although the situation at LAC is stable, it needs to be closely monitored. In other words, Army Chief General Pandey stated in his message that China cannot be trusted. On Saturday, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar presented the country’s position diplomatically. In 1988, then Prime Minister of India Lt. Mr. Rajiv Gandhi visited China. After that, from 1988 to 2020 peace and harmony remained on the LAC between India and China. Both countries have taken some decisions to maintain this peace and harmony. But after the conflict in Galwan, the situation changed, and Dr. S. Jaishankar attacked China in direct words. At this time, the foreign minister warned that China could not expect bilateral cooperation with India due to massive military deployment on the border and violation of border agreements.

In 2020, we also agreed with the then-Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding the LAC. But this understanding has not been seen on the LAC, indicating that China is trying to resolve the issue by providing only verbal comfort to India. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar noted that in the background of the recently held G20 meeting, he discussed with China’s current Foreign Minister Qin Gang. Still, China’s policy on LAC has remained the same since then.

Due to this, the relationship between India and China is in a challenging and extraordinary situation. Jaishankar clarified that while China is not ready to give up its Heka, India has taken a firm stance on the LAC. Both countries’ armies are deployed so close to the LAC that it is considered militarily dangerous. Jaishankar pointed out that the situation here is sensitive and dangerous and conflict can flare up at any moment. At the same time, India is pointing out that China’s claims about smooth relations with India have no meaning. China is claiming that its relations with India are intact so as not to tarnish its image at the international level. But speaking at the international level, India’s foreign minister had asserted that India’s relations with China are not at a normal level which is being noticed at the international level. However, India has warned that it will not accept the mediation of any other country in the border dispute with China. China appreciated this role of India. But China is not ready to reduce the tension here by withdrawing its deployment along the LAC. So China seems to have made this a matter of its reputation.
