propagandaIn a conversation with a German newspaper, Jourova raised awareness by saying that Russian propaganda has a significant impact on the European public. ‘In Slovakia, more than 50% of people trust conspiracy theories, including the claims on Russia attacking Ukraine. The claims that Russia is a victim rather than an aggressor nation are being encouraged,’ according to Jourova.

The EU official also emphasized how the European nations have, up until now, ignored the spread of Russian disinformation. The Russian government has spent billions of dollars spreading propaganda in Europe, but we have done little to counter it, Vera Jourova, vice president of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, noted. She also urged the European countries to focus on this issue in the near future and invest more.

Also, according to Jourova, Russia’s disinformation campaign is primarily aimed at Germany, the leading EU country. She then voiced the possibility that the Russian systems might have successfully influenced some movements in Germany. Jourova also justified blocking the Russian news channel “RT”, warning that it should continue to be blocked. The European Commission for Values and Transparency vice president has demanded that media, independent of the ruling Russian regime, are also active in Europe and should be given a boost.
