Due to these daily attacks by the Syrian regime, more than 400 thousand civilians are trapped in ‘Eastern Ghouta’ and even humanitarian aid cannot reached them, criticised the United States and the UN. There were allegations of chemical attacks on the people of ‘Eastern Ghouta’ by the Syrian regime. These attacks are in violation of the ceasefire and Russia should make efforts to stop these attacks by the Syrian regime, the UN had appealed.

United States envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley sternly warned Russia when the information about the continued use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime was revealed. Haley reminded of the US attacks in ‘Khan Sheikhoun’ area in Syria last year. If Russia does not stop the attacks by the Syrian regime, US will make repeat attacks like the one on ‘Khan Sheikhoun’, threatened Haley. Haley held Russia responsible for these attacks by the Syrian regime.

Russian Chief of General Staff General Gerasimov replied to the US threat. ‘We have credible information that the rebels are planning a chemical attack. But the United States has made preparations for an attack making false accusations of chemical attacks on the Syrian regime. If these attacks threaten the security of the Russian soldiers and its interests in Syria, Russia will attack the US soldiers.’ warned General Gerasimov.

The US defence headquarters, the Pentagon has dismissed the Russian allegations. Pentagon has criticised Russia by saying that, ‘with these allegations, Russia is trying to divert the world’s attention away from the misdeeds of the Syrian regime’. Meanwhile, Russian Chief of General Staff General Valery Gerasimov, who had threatened of attacking the US soldiers had a telephonic discussion with the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford. Details of these discussions are not available.
