Russia-Saudi hold talks over Iran, Syria issues

Moscow: – The Middle Eastern region is experiencing repercussions of the Biden administration’s liberal policy about the Iran Nuclear Programme. Against this background, Russian Diplomat Mikhail Bogdanov and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, held important discussions. President Biden has hurt US allies like Israel, Saudi and other Middle Eastern countries, expressing willingness to sign a new nuclear deal with Iran. Some US diplomats had warned that Russia would take advantage of this and increase its influence in the Middle East. Discussions between the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; moreover, the Russian proposal in the meeting only show that the fears expressed by the US diplomats are not baseless.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, appointed as the special envoy for the Middle Eastern sector by Russian President Vladimir Putin, held telephonic talks with Jubeir from Saudi. Russian foreign ministry informed that the talks were held on an initiative from Saudi. Russia has published the details of the discussions. Both the leaders discussed about making the foreign policies of Russia and Saudi all-inclusive to resolve the international and regional issues.   

Russian foreign ministry informed that discussions were held regarding the situation in Syria and developments in Lebanon. Whereas, both the leaders presented the stand of their respective countries regarding the moves made for the Iran nuclear deal. Russia said that Saudi was considering a Russian proposal for the collective security of the Middle East, which is strategically significant. This was reported by a news agency connected to the Russian government.  

Reports have already been published that Russia is unhappy with the Assad regime in Syria and the increasing Iranian influence in Syria. It was also reported that the Hezbollah group from Lebanon had visited Russia and held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. After that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Saudi.
