Russia, Hypersonic Missile, defence systems,For the last few years, Russia has focussed on developing hypersonic missiles and two such hypersonic missiles have already been deployed in the defence forces. Zircon is the most advanced hypersonic missile capable of achieving a speed of up to 10,000 Kilometres per hour. Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised the hypersonic missile for its capability to evade defence systems. A few months ago, Putin had announced that Zircon would be deployed on Russian warships by next year.

Just a few days ago, the Zircon hypersonic missile test on the destroyer was conducted. There was no intimation about the timeline to begin manufacturing. Therefore, a sudden revelation to start manufacturing the missile is seen as a warning from Russia to their enemy. Amid claims and speculation that Russia would attack Ukraine, the announcement to expedite production of Zircon is raising concerns for the western countries.
