Rocket attacks continue in Israel from Gaza, despite declaration of ceasefire

Gaza/Jerusalem: Thirty-two people have been killed in the conflict between Islamic Jihad from Gaza and Israel in the last two days. An announcement had been made that ceasefire will be imposed from Thursday night to stop this bloodshed. But even after this, there were five rockets launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Therefore, concerns are being expressed that a new conflict may flareup.

More than 450 rockets were launched by the Islamic Jihad, into Israel, following the killing of the Islamic Jihad commander by the Israeli military. The Israel military claimed that rockets were being fired every minute. The Israeli military announced that they had destroyed the bases of the terrorist organisation Islamic Jihad which was responsible for these rocket attacks and had killed their commander. Thirty-two people have been killed in the Israeli actions till the imposition of the ceasefire and the Israeli military has claimed that 20 of these were terrorists.  

Thereafter, Islamic Jihad announced that this conflict would not stop. But a ceasefire was agreed with mediation from Egypt. Israel welcomed this ceasefire. But Israel has stated that ‘Israel will be quiet only till the silence lasts. It will not stop short of retaliating against an anti-Israel activity.’ Within two hours of starting of the ceasefire, there were rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.  

As per the information given by the Israeli military, there were five rocket attacks till Thursday evening. The rocket attacks caused no major damages. The Israel military also has refrained from retaliating against the attacks. But Israel has kept the Iron Dome and defence systems against rockets in a state of readiness near the border. This same Iron Dome system had neutralised more than 90% of the rockets launched into Israel. Israel has also relaxed the restrictions on the Gaza border commencing the commercial freight movement.  

Meanwhile, the Israeli media have claimed that the ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad will not last long. There is a possibility of fresh rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli media claimed that in this scenario, the Israeli military will retaliate very strongly against it. e were five rockets launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
