Reduction of employees due to ‘Automation’

New Delhi : Along with the development of technology, we are getting benefited by the legacy of modernization. In the last few years, the ‘Automation’ technology invented in the rapidly developed age of computerization, is proving to cut down the wages of the employees. The information about the blow received due to ‘Automation’ was provided by the head HR of the essential computerization technology developing company ‘Infosys’.

The head HR also informed that due to the increasing use of ‘Automation’ ‘Infosys’ released nearly 8000-9000 employees annually and that Infosys will shoulder big  responsibility to such employees after receiving special coaching.

Reduction of employees due to 'Automation'

The information about the impacts of ‘Automation’ was provided by Krishnamurthy Shankar, Head HR , Infosys. During recent times along with other companies, even ‘BPO’ companies are emphasizing on the use of ‘Automation’. The use of automation has proven to be a cost cutting measure to reduce the expenditure on the employees for many companies. Under these circumstances, Infosys too has adopted automation and has released nearly 8000-9000 employees annually from departments where this technology was implemented, informed Shankar. Shankar also stated that the employees released due to automation were given more advanced training for receiving more skillful responsibilities. Shankar also added that due to the growing use of automation, in every quarter, Infosys is releasing 2000 employees from their responsibilities and from the related departments and providing advanced training to them. The Infosys head HR was present in a conference arranged in Bengaluru. On this occasion, while discussing, Shankar informed about the rapid use of ‘Automation’ and its impact. He also stated that in the near future there will be a decline in the number of employees required due to the increasing use of automation.

At present, the requirement of employees have reduced. However the nature of this has not been clear yet. Some of the requirements have gone down due to automation while some due to the lack of satisfactory performance of the companies. Infosys had appointed 5,700 employees in the first 9 months of the present financial year while 17,000 employees were hired in the first 9 months of the previous year, informed Shankar.

While giving this information, the head HR of Infosys also mentioned about the growing use of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning technologies in the company. In order to emphatically use these technologies, the company has provided coaching to 490 employees in the first batch. Huge expenses were spent previously to setup the system required to use these technologies. However now the cost has been reduced effectively, informed the head HR.

Earlier the ‘Wipro’ company had embraced  the automation technology named as ‘Holmes’. The Head HR of Wipro, Saurabh Govil, informed that due to automation the company has released 4500 employees in the month of November itself. It was also said that these employees were provided more advanced training.
