QUAD’s support fills the void left behind, claims Indian External Affairs Minister

Washington, DC – Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has claimed, ‘The void created in recent times is being filled with the help of QUAD. This gap cannot be filled by a particular country alone. This task is not possible even with bilateral cooperation. It requires multilateral cooperation, which is in line with international law, such as the QUAD.’

Talks with India’s Foreign Minister have been fruitful, said US Secretary of State Blinken. Blinken stated that the discussions included the Coronavirus pandemic, the Indo-China border situation and Afghanistan’s issue. Foreign Minister Jaishankar, on the other hand, claimed that the talks had strengthened the strategic partnership between India and the United States. The issue of QUAD’s cooperation is also at the forefront of this discussion.

India, the United States, Japan and Australia, in the Indo-Pacific region, started the QUAD. Over the past few months, this cooperation has gained great strategic importance. In particular, the rise in China’s aggression was seen as a factor in strengthening QUAD’s collaboration. At the same time, allegations have been made that QUAD’s collaboration is against China.

When a country like India becomes a member of any group, it considers all the perspectives very carefully. Jaishankar said, ‘India does not take such a decision unless there is clarity in its position.’ He pointed out that the QUAD is not an organization that has been set up against any one country. The QUAD considers maritime security, cooperation as well as connectivity. At the same time, compliance with international law is valued by the QUAD, said the Indian Foreign Minister.

Currently, discussions regarding the common interests of countries are being carried out in the QUAD. Foreign Minister Jaishankar claimed that the current situation in the world is reflected in the cooperation of the QUAD. The QUAD is not a part of the cold war. QUAD would represent the new transformed world post-cold war. However, those still stuck in the Cold War mentality will not understand the QUAD, the Indian Foreign Minister said.

The country’s foreign ministry had blamed QUAD’s cooperation against China. The allegations were made by the Chinese Foreign Ministry while threatening Bangladesh over its participation in the QUAD.
