Mumbai: Large potholes have developed on the Sion-Panvel highway due to heavy rains. On Tuesday, this caused a major traffic jam on the road. At the same time, images of vehicles lined up over a stretch of 3 km from Kharghar to C.B.D were visible. Motorists travelling towards Mumbai on the highway were frustrated, as it took them well over half an hour to cover a minor distance of 3 km from Kharghar to CBD Belapur due to the traffic jam. Meanwhile, demands are being made to fill up all the potholes on the highway urgently.
The traffic congestion on the Sion-Panvel highway began from Sunday night. Potholes have led to substantial traffic woes on this highway. Potholes have developed on the road just before the Flyover Bridge right in front of the Konkan Bhavan. On Monday, the vehicles were queued over a stretch of 7 km in both directions on this highway. Nevertheless, the vehicle queue stretched over a distance of 3kms on Tuesday.
However, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has initiated work to repair the potholes on this road leading to the CBD-Belapur Flyover Bridge. It resulted in a traffic jam on the highway, informed Pravin Pande, Assistant Police Inspector, Kharghar Traffic Unit.
