US Pentagon initiates steps for ‘Space-Based Rapid Reaction Force’

Washington: The Transportation Command of the US defence department has initiated steps to build the ‘Space-Based Rapid Reaction Force’. The Transportation Command has signed an agreement with ‘Spaces’, an Elon Musk company, for this purpose. Officials from the defence department claimed that this assistance can reach anywhere in the world within an hour. The officials also claimed that this includes military assistance to aid during an emergency.

Moreover, the website ‘The Intercept’ published a report regarding this. The website cited that this report was based on the information received through an application made under the ‘Freedom of Information Act.’ The US Transportation Command is responsible for reaching all the essential assistance to the US bases around the globe. General Stephan Leons, a senior official in the command, made a presentation in 2020 in this regard. It was shared in the presentation that an agreement had been signed with Spacex, an Elon Musk company.

Furthermore, General Leons said that the central concept behind the ‘Space-Based Rapid Reaction Force’ is that the quantity of goods that can be carried by a C-17 transport aircraft can be reached any part of the globe in one hour. General Leons clarified that the plan is to send the materials into space in a SpaceX spacecraft and land at any global location within an hour. The Transportation Command also claimed that the system is currently in an experimental stage and the ‘Space-Based Rapid Reaction Force’ can be operational in the coming decade.

The Transportation Command has mentioned three possibilities in its report. Firstly, it mentions the option for Logistics delivery in the Pacific sector, followed by the second feature of the Airforce Deployable Airbase System. Besides, the third possibility is the Embassy Support for the US State Department. With the new system, the military can be deployed in Africa or anywhere else globally within an hour.
